Google Duo is one of the simplest apps for making video calls with friends and family, but it’s been limited by the fact that it generally requires a phone number to use. Frankly, you don’t want everyone to have anyone's phone number. It now seems Google is changing that requirement.



Google Duo is working on “Reachable with email address” setting

It seems Google Duo will allow people to contact you via email at long last. It’s not clear if it is an opt-in or opt-out feature — or whether you’ll still need to sign up with a phone number — but it’s still nice to at least have the option to use email. Google first allowed you to make called on the web with just an email account back, but given it’s a mobile-first app, it’s good to see some similar flexibility afforded to our smartphones.



Considering the uptick in Google Duo usage after the coronavirus Pandemic, I’m glad to see the company is finally giving one of its best apps more attention. Google recently increased the number of callers who could be on a call at once and significantly improved video quality for low-bandwidth callers. Given people will continue to interact remotely for the foreseeable future, you can bet there are further improvements on the way.

India Tells Banks to Migrate ATMs From Windows XP.

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has notified all local financial institutions to exchange the operating system of the ATMs that still run Windows XP. They will be subject to regulatory sanctions if they do not meet the deadline – by June 2019. The Bleeping Computer obtained a copy of the notification sent by the RBI. Banks will have to implement some security measures before replacing Windows XP with another newer system. In the first phase, which lasts until August 2018, banks should implement password in the BIOS of ATMs; disable USB ports; apply the latest security patches, and limit the access time of administrators. In the second phase, which runs until March 2019, institutions will have to take steps to prevent card cloning and will apply whitelisting to release critical access only to certain users. Whatsapp can start showing ads soon. As per the reports, it is said that Whatsapp’s parent company Facebook has decided not to put ads on the app. Whatsapp has billions of users around the world. Facebook has not planned completely to show advertisements on Whatsapp. The networking giant suspended the push to bring ads to avoid “antagonising regulators.” As per the reports mentioned, how the advertising model will be performed is the Facebook can use the phone numbers as determines to “match” Whatsapp and Facebook accounts and then it will show ads to the targeted users. Once the company will get the unification of its messaging platforms Facebook Messenger, WhatsApp, and Instagram, it will be out soon. Google releases Android 11 Developer Preview 3.--New Modern Tech Media

Google has begun rolling out the third release of the Android 11 Developer Preview to several Pixel devices. Unfortunately, we don’t recommend anyone flash a Developer Preview build to your Pixel if it is currently your primary device, as it perhaps may not be stable enough. The update is dated on April 23 with a build number of RPP3.200230.017 and is security patched up to April 2020. Is is running with Google Play services 20.12.14.
