Google Duo is one of the simplest apps for making video calls with friends and family, but it’s been limited by the fact that it generally requires a phone number to use. Frankly, you don’t want everyone to have anyone's phone number. It now seems Google is changing that requirement.



Google Duo is working on “Reachable with email address” setting

It seems Google Duo will allow people to contact you via email at long last. It’s not clear if it is an opt-in or opt-out feature — or whether you’ll still need to sign up with a phone number — but it’s still nice to at least have the option to use email. Google first allowed you to make called on the web with just an email account back, but given it’s a mobile-first app, it’s good to see some similar flexibility afforded to our smartphones.



Considering the uptick in Google Duo usage after the coronavirus Pandemic, I’m glad to see the company is finally giving one of its best apps more attention. Google recently increased the number of callers who could be on a call at once and significantly improved video quality for low-bandwidth callers. Given people will continue to interact remotely for the foreseeable future, you can bet there are further improvements on the way.

It is the first time a major social-media platform has blocked private messaging by teenagers, on a global scale. Until now, all users have been able to send direct messages to others, when both accounts follow each other. The change means those under the age of 16 will no longer be able to communicate privately on the platform under any circumstances. They will still be able to post publicly in the comments sections of videos. TikTok says those affected will receive an in-app notification soon and will lose access to direct messages on 30 April. The limit is based on the date of birth added to the account when it is created - but no verification takes place and the system is based on trust.The interesting thing here is that TikTok's biggest group of users are teenagers. Facebook Dark mode Rolling out in App

Good news, who are eagerly waiting for Dark mode feature in Facebook mobile application Facebook has started rolling out Dark Mode support on mobile users and the feature is currently live with some users globally. Facebook Dark Mode interface will not be completely black like on Instagram and Messenger but a grayscale design with white accents for logos and icons. The social network confirmed to Social Media that Dark Mode for mobile is live for "a small percentage of users globally right now."
